ASUS Reduces Eee PC Volumes Thanks to the Transformer’s Success

ASUS is seeing better than expected Eee Pad Transformer sales and due to its versatile form factor its decreasing its Eee PC volumes to compensate. With its detachable keyboard the Transformer fills the same category as the average netbook, its not surprising that a tablet that offers productivity is competing for the same audience.
According the sources at Digitimes the Eee Pad Transformer should reach 700,000-800,000 units in the third quarter for a total of two million units in 2011. In Q3 ASUS is rumored to be launching the Transformer 2 featuring Nvidia’s new quad-core Tegra 3 or Kal-El processor.

Actually it is not just the netbook category that ASUS is seeing declining volumes, the entire notebook segment has been slowly sloaping downward, it was netbook sales that actually helped to stabalize the entire segment. It seems that tablets are due to take over with their slow and stready uptake in the mainstream market.
